TedX Sydney It was an honour to be part of the team of photography who captured images of the TedX Sydney event at Sydney Convention Centre in 2018.  Posting live from backstage, we had a huge team of shooter, runners and computer gurus ensuring that everything ran smoothly.   I have been a fan of TED Talk for many years, finding great inspiration and information from amazing speakers around the world.  Being there amongst the speakers and organisers was an energising experience.   TEDxSydney is the leading platform for the propagation of Australian ideas, creativity and innovation to the rest of the world. TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less) and covers almost all topics from science to business to global issues.   Here are some of my event photographs from TedX Sydney.   Magda Szubanski Magda silenced the TedX audience with her heart wrenching stories about her family’s past, her childhood and her public “coming out”.  She is an incredible speaker and entertainer.  It was a privilege to witness this fragile side to Magda as I grew up seeing her on TV as a confident and […] Read More

Tastings on Hastings Photography by Port Macquarie Photographer Alicia Fox     Tastings on Hastings is one of the highlights on the Port Macquarie calendar. This year I was thrilled to be invited to Near River Produce‘s farm west of Wauchope to photograph their renowned Meals in the Fields.  This pop up dining experience presented guests with a genuine paddock to plate experience thanks to Mid North Coast chefs Carla Jones, former head chef at 4 Fourteen, and her partner, Richie Dolan, former head chef from Chiswick. Near River specialises in ethically raising a rare breed heritage pork on pasture and growing seasonal vegetables.       Read More

I’ve photographed at the Birpai Local Aboriginal Land Council in Port Macquarie a number of times and I always love returning to this welcoming space.  The centre is set amongst the bush with native plants endemic to the area, which local Birpai people can demonstrate many traditional uses for.  Every time I’m there, I learn more about the local culture of our First Nations people, and about the Birpai/Dunghutti country that I’m so lucky to live in.   I was photographing for a not-for-profit organisation, FCAN (The Financial Counsellors’ Association of NSW Inc).  FCAN was in Port Macquarie for a conference with volunteers and suppliers from across the state.  They were treated to cultural performances and demonstrations from local indigenous children and women.  The sting ray dance performed by the ladies is always a highlight – it’s so serene and calming.   Following the dances, everyone (including me) learnt traditional weaving with Trish.  The same technique can be used to weave jewellery or baskets, using the lomandra grass.   After weaving, Rhonda walked us around the garden to learn about plants and their uses.   Lemon myrtle was one of the local bush foods used to make these delicious deserts.   I am available to photographer indoor and outdoor events in the Mid North Coast, or nationally.  Past clients include Sydney Morning Herald, University of Sydney and Victoria Rugby League.  I shoot events in an unobtrusive way to capture the energy and excitement: whether it is a celebration, corporate function or music festival.     I photographed events while living in Melbourne and in Sydney. Event organisers often hired me based on my documentary photography portfolio, which although shot in a very different environment, requires similar techniques and skills. These include understanding different lighting situations, setting up a good composition and predicting the perfect moment, as well as having the equipment necessary to fulfill the brief.         I have recently move to the Mid North Coast of NSW, where I am re-launching my photography business. There are really exciting things happening here in arts and culture, and I am looking forward to the opportunities to photograph local events and music festivals in Port Macquarie and the surrounding areas, getting to know the people, places and scene along the way.     You can contact me on 0429 211 567 or info@aliciafox.net with inquiries about you upcoming events.
