Eco Photographer An interview of ethically focussed photographer, Alicia Fox in Muse Magazine Australia’s newest magazine for inspiration, self-help and culture, featured an interview about my work as an eco photographer.  The article explores my journey from being a teenager driven to fulfil my dreams of travel and photography, to the journey that entailed, learning about what is really important to me and utilising my profession to work towards a better world.   As you can read below, photography has taken me around the globe, discovering incredible cultures and learning from some of the most ancient and untouched peoples in the world today.  These lessons are priceless and I am extremely grateful for the journey thus far.   Being an eco photographer and living a sustainable lifestyle in both my professional and personal life is something extremely important to me, and something that I’ve written about in previous blog posts.  My work with indigenous groups and NGOs around the world has contributed to this greatly.  Once visiting these places and sitting to talk with the people effected by climate change, corporate greed, environmental destruction and so on, it’s impossible to turn a blind eye and un-care.   Everyone can make […] Read More

I was asked to do photography of a Kempsey Riversideside Markets special event, the Kempsey Twilight Markets.  I’ve always loved markets so covering the event photography for this special Christmas market was a lot of fun.   Riversider Park was packed with stalls, showcasing many locally made arts, crafts and food.  There was an abundance of local produce with fresh fruit and veggies and gorgeous flowers.  The entertainment was mainly singer songwriters from the local area and I enjoyed discovering some of our local artists from around the Mid North Coast.     If you are looking for an Event Photographer for your upcoming event in Kempsey, Crescent Head, South West Rocks, Port Macquarie or elsewhere on the Mid North Coast, please get in touch to discuss how I can help.   Read More

Last week I was in Port Macquarie to photograph the launch of Energy Forever’s first 100 percent community funded and owned solar panel system at St Agnes Early Education Centre.  This not-for-profit organisation has spent years rallying in the local Mid North Coast community to raise funds for this incredible project.  It’s wonderful to finally see the results of their hard work.   The 72 panels  are split over 4 roof faces to best cover the load at the centre. The DC from the panels is converted to AC grid power.      I fully support what Port Macquarie Hastings Sustainability Network and Energy Forever are doing for the community and the environment which is why I photographed the event for them on a pro-bono basis.  If you have skills that you’d like to share with the organisation, get in touch via their Facebook page.             To see more of my work with not for profit organisations please visit my website Read More

If you live anywhere around Port Macquarie you would have seen this smiling face in newspapers, on billboards and signs around town over the past few weeks.  Everyone seems to have spotted Peta’s photo somewhere.   I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing Peta Pinson for her campaign for Mayor.  A really genuine, kind hearted person, I’m sure she will make a great Mayor if she is voted in.   It was another opportunity for me to discover more of the gorgeous, tranquil locations in our local area.  We started out with a studio set up in her office in Wauchope then Peta took me to some of the beautiful locations she’d chosen around the Port Macquarie area for her location shots.  We finished up as the sun turned golden over the marina in Port Macquarie.   Good luck with the campaign, Peta!     Read More

It was such a pleasure to be part of the Aboriginal Model Search in Kempsey.  The model search is travelling around Australia looking for new indigenous talent to be represented in the fashion industry.   I sponsored the Kempsey event as it is in my local area, near my home town of Crescent Head.  As well as offering a major prize of a Model Portfolio Shoot with me, to the lovely Ada (below on the right), I invited three outstanding entrants to an Indii Swimwear casting and modelling tutorial with Nancy (Indii designer) and me, in July.     I’m looking forward to working with each of these gorgeous girls, and sharing the photos with you, so stay tuned.  Below are more photos from the evening.     See photos from my last Indii Swimwear shoot in my Fashion Portfolio. The Kempsey region is rich with indigenous history and culture.  The local aboriginal elders have fascinating stories to share which enrapture my imagination about what came before me on these streets, rivers and fields. Emily King recognises how important it is for these stories to be shared and recorded, and has been working on a project, “Wiriiynakayi Ngunngun Dunghutti” – Dunghutti Stories from Yesterday, which was funded through Kempsey Shire Council.  The Dunghutti are an Aboriginal group whose traditional lands lie in the Macleay Valley, on the Mid North Coast of NSW.  As a Crescent Head local, I live within this area and it is important to me to learn about my local history, culture and people.   The aim of the Dunghutti Stories from Yesterday project was to record a set of stories from each of the communities in the area.   These stories were told by elders to school children.  The kids painted elements of the stories which became part of 13 impressive murals.  The process provided a beautiful interaction between the elders and the children, allowing the kids to learn about their indigenous history. In the words of Uncle Bob, (pictured below with Emily), “It’s important for those generations who have […] Read More

I had the pleasure of photographing a professional portrait for Karen Archer last week in Port Macquarie.  I set up my studio in Karen’s clinic and had a great time chatting and shooting in a casual, comfortable style.   I first met Karen through the Hastings Business Womens Network (HBWN), which is a Port Macquarie based women’s networking group with an array of fantastic social and professional events.    Karen is the President and Spokesperson for the group.  She is also a Naturopath, Herbalist, Nutritionist and Iridologist, and through her business is committed to improving quality of life and health.  I have been lucky enough to attend one of her evening talks and walked away with a great insight into the way the body works and how to improve my own vitality. Karen was delighted with the results from the shoot, which made me a very happy photographer. If you are looking for a portrait photographer because you are in need of a profile picture for your website, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or any other social media or print, please get in contact with me.  In today’s world, our online profile photos are so important.  Although we are taught not to “judge a […] Read More

I have made a treechange, packing up life in Inner City Sydney, to move up the coast 400km to the beautiful little coastal town of Crescent Head.  Up here, life rolls by at a different pace.  I have time to kick back with a beverage at dusk and watch silhouettes of kangeroos bounce across the pink horizon.  The mornings greet me with layers of dawn bird songs over the gentle purr of the ocean: a welcome change from the roaring engines and rattling windows that once awoke me as jets landed at Sydney Airport. I don’t mind missing out on conveniences like cafes, restaurants and late night grocers.  Like when travelling, you learn to adapt to a new environment quickly, just because you have to.  You embrace it, and truly appreciate it when you stumble upon something you love. Now up here on the Mid North Coast, I will be basing my photography studio in Port Macquarie, as well as focusing more on international photo work, and continuing shooting in Sydney. I’m really looking forward to connecting with people here in the Port Macquarie and Crescent Head areas.  In a region bursting with entrepreneurs, and where local business dominates, […] Read More
